Based on the fluorescence sensor of 3-Mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs), two novel detection methods for aklomide and nitromide were developed. The MPA-CdTe QDs were synthesized and characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet visible (UV-vis) and fluorescence (FL). The quenchings were all static. The binding constants (K a ) at different temperatures were obtained. Electrostatic forces were the main forces for the two bindings. For the detection of aklomide and nitromide, under the optimal conditions, the effects of some metal ions, glucose, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and congeneric drug on the determination were explored. The standard equations were established and the limits of detection (LOD) were 0.0215 and 0.0388 μg mL -1 (3S 0 /S), repectively. Plasmon enhanced fluorescent (PEF) with more "hot spots" play a critical role in signal amplified technology to avoid the intrinsic limitation of fluorophore which ascribed to a strong electromagnetic field at the tip structure. However, application of PEF technique to obtain a highly sensitive analysis of medicine was still at a very early stage. Herein, a simple but versatile Ag nanocubes (Agcubes)-based PEF sensor combined with aptamer (Agcubes@SiO 2 -QDs-Apt) was proposed for highly sensitive detection of berberine hydrochloride (BH). The distance between the plasma Agcubes and the red-emitted CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were regulated by the thickness of silica spacer. The three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (3D-FDTD) simulation further revealed that Agcubes have a higher electromagnetic field than Ag nanospheres. Compared with PEF sensor, signal QDs-modified aptamer without Agcubes (QDs-Apt) showed a 10-fold higher detection limit. The linear range and detection limit of the Agcubes@SiO 2 -QDs-Apt were 0.1-100 μM, 87.3 nM, respectively. Furthermore, the PEF sensor was applied to analysis BH in the berberine hydrochloride tablets, compound berberine tablet and urine with good recoveries of 98.25-102.05%. As a global emerging contaminant, microplastics (MPs) in water or soil can accumulate in vegetables, making them easily ingested through the diet. With excellent and tunable optical properties, carbon dots (CDs) are highly advantageous for tracing the entry process of MPs. Originally, long-wavelength CDs were synthesized from leaf-derived extracts, and fluorescent submicrometer plastics (CDs-MPs) with clean surfaces and concentrated particle sizes were obtained by soap-free microemulsion polymerization. The concentration of CDs-MPs exhibits a significant linear relationship with long-wavelength fluorescence intensity (λ Ex /λ Em : 415/676 nm). Soybean sprouts (SBS), as an important type of food, are susceptible to contamination of MPs due to their soft epidermis and rapidly growing biomass. The results showed that CDs-MPs could be embedded into the cortex of SBS and enter the plant with cell division and elongation, leading to an increase in pore size on the cell wall surface. After entering the root system, CDs-MPs will pass through the Casparian strip and migrate in the vessels. Then, CDs-MPs enter the leaves through vascular bundles, and the distribution and size of epicuticular wax on leaves have changed. Furthermore, SBS showed resistant growth and increased levels of oxidative response when exposed to MPs/CDs-MPs. Rapid and sensitive monitoring of pH and histamine is crucial for bridging biological and food systems and identifying corresponding abnormal situations. Herein, N-doped carbon dots (CDs) are fabricated by a hydrothermal method employing dipicolinic acid and o-phenylenediamine as precursors. The CDs exhibit colorimetric and fluorescent dual-mode responses to track pH and histamine variations in living cells and food freshness, respectively. The aggregation-induced emission enhancement and intramolecular charge transfer result in a decrease in absorbance and an increase in fluorescence, which become readily apparent as the pH changes from acidic to neutral. This property enables precise differentiation between normal and cancerous cells. Furthermore, given the intrinsic basicity of histamine, pH-responsive CDs are advantageous for additional colorimetric and fluorescent monitoring of histamine in food freshness, achieving linearities of 25-1000 µM and 30-1000 µM, respectively, which are broader than those of alternative nanoprobes. Interestingly, the smartphone-integrated sensing platform can portably and visually evaluate pH and histamine changes due to sensitive color changes. This study delved into the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying the mitigation of cadmium (Cd) stress in the model medicinal plant Salvia miltiorrhiza through the application of ZnO quantum dots (ZnO QDs, 3.84 nm). A pot experiment was conducted, wherein S. miltiorrhiza was subjected to Cd stress for six weeks with foliar application of 100 mg/L ZnO QDs. Physiological analyses demonstrated that compared to Cd stress alone, ZnO QDs improved biomass, reduced Cd accumulation, increased the content of photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll and carotenoids), and enhanced the levels of essential nutrient elements (Ca, Mn, and Cu) under Cd stress. Furthermore, ZnO QDs significantly lowered Cd-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) content, including H 2 O 2 , O 2 - , and MDA, while enhancing the activity of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, POD, APX, and GSH-PX). Additionally, ZnO QDs promoted the biosynthesis of primary and secondary metabolites, such as total protein, soluble sugars, terpenoids, and phenols, thereby mitigating Cd stress in S. miltiorrhiza. At the molecular level, ZnO QDs were found to activate the expression of stress signal transduction-related genes, subsequently regulating the expression of downstream target genes associated with metal transport, cell wall synthesis, and secondary metabolite synthesis via transcription factors. This activation mechanism contributed to enhancing Cd tolerance in S. miltiorrhiza. The development of high-performance sensors for doxycycline (DOX) detection is necessary because its residue accumulation will cause serious harm to human health and the environment. Here, a novel tri-emission ratiometric fluorescence sensor was proposed by using "post-mixing" strategy of different emissions fluorescence molecularly imprinted polymers with salicylamide as dummy template (DMIPs). BSA was chosen as assistant functional monomer, and also acted as sensitizers for the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect of DOX. The blue-emitting carbon dots and the red-emitting CdTe quantum dots were separately introduced into DMIPs as the response signals. Upon DOX recognition within 2 min, blue and red fluorescence of the tri-emission DMIPs sensor were quenched while green fluorescence of DOX was enhanced, resulting in a wide range of color variations observed over bluish violet-rosered-light pink-orange-yellow-green with a detection limit of 0.061 μM. The sensor possessed highly selective recognition and was successfully applied to detect DOX in complicated real samples. Moreover, with the fluorescent color collection and data processing, the smartphone-assisted visual detection of the sensors showed satisfied sensitivity with low detection limit. This work reports the construction of an HIV-specific genosensor through the modification of carbon screen-printed electrodes (CSPE) with graphene quantum dots decorated with L-cysteine and gold nanoparticles (cys-GQDs/AuNps). Cys-GQDs were characterized by FT-IR and UV-vis spectra and electronic properties of the modified electrodes were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The modification of the electrode surface with cys-GQDs and AuNps increased the electrochemical performance of the electrode, improving the electron transfer of the anionic redox probe [Fe(CN) 6 ] 3-/4- on the electrochemical platform. When compared to the bare surface, the modified electrode showed a 1.7 times increase in effective electrode area and a 29 times decrease in charge transfer resistance. The genosensor response was performed by differential pulse voltammetry, monitoring the current response of the anionic redox probe, confirmed with real genomic RNA samples, making it possible to detect 1 fg/mL. In addition, the genosensor maintained its response for 60 days at room temperature. Noble metal nanostructures and photonic crystals (PhCs) have been widely investigated as substrates for constructing surface enhanced electrochemiluminescence (SE-ECL) biosensors. However, their applications are hindered by the limited enhancement intensity of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and an incomplete mechanism for the photonic enhancement effect. Hence, developing a novel SE-ECL strategy with better signal enhanced capability and enriching our understanding of the intrinsic mechanisms for efficient bioanalysis is extremely urgent. Here, a synergistic SE-ECL strategy was developed for the sensitive determination of prostate specific antigen (PSA) protein. The randomly arranged polystyrene (r-PS) spheres and PS PhC arrays were applied to enhance the ECL emission of cadmium sulfide quantum dots (CdS QDs) and the results suggested that the PhC arrays displayed superior intensity (0.22) than the r-PS interface (0.10). Au nanoparticles (NPs) were introduced onto the two kinds of surfaces and further boosted the ECL intensity. According to the ECL measurements, Au NPs modified at the r-PS surface exhibited only a slight increase (0.13), while the PhC arrays showed approximately 5-fold enhancement (0.92), benefiting from the synergistic enhancement. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulation indicated that the ECL enhancement was ascribed to the coupled electromagnetic (EM) field at the surfaces of PS PhCs and Au NPs. The SE-ECL could achieve a detection range from 1 pg/mL to 1 μg/mL with a detection limit of 0.41 pg/mL (S/N = 3). This study provides the first combination of PhC arrays and metal surface plasmon nanostructure for the synergetic enhancement of SE-ECL systems. Presently, most fluorescent probes for amino acid enantiomers detection require metal ions participation, which greatly increases the detection steps and costs, and affects the accuracy of detection results. To solve this problem, a dual pattern recognition sensor of chiral carbon dots (L-Try-Thr-CDs) with a quantum yield of 36.23 % was prepared by a one-step solvothermal method for the highly selective detection of lysine (Lys) enantiomers. Under optimal experimental conditions, the fluorescence and circular dichroism (CD) signals of the obtained L-Try-Thr-CDs could rapidly and effectively responded to L-Lys with limits of detection (LOD) of 16.51 nM and 24.38 nM, respectively, much lower than previously reported sensors. Importantly, the L-Try-Thr-CDs as a dual-mode sensor could not only detect amino acid enantiomers and simplify the steps, but also avoid inaccurate detection results due to unstable metal ions. Furthermore, the L-Try-Thr-CDs could detect L-Lys in living cells via a fluorescence microscope because of their excellent fluorescence characteristics and low toxicity. Application of nanomaterials (NMs) in agriculture poses an ingestion risk to humans and may affect the digestive process. Different fates of NMs with differential charges in the gastrointestinal tract should be considered. In this study, the interaction between three carbon dots (CDs) carried with different functional groups (-NH 2 , -OH, and -COOH) and pepsin was analyzed through an in vitro digestion model. The results showed that CDs significantly reduced pepsin activity. Among them, CDs-NH 2 had the greatest effect, following by CDs-OH, and CDs-COOH. Besides, molecular docking demonstrated the specific binding site of CDs to pepsin, while the most stable binding energy (-8.10 kcal/mol) was formed between CDs-NH 2 and pepsin. Further, CDs formed a nanomaterial-protein crown structure with pepsin. Food sources are susceptible to contamination with ochratoxin A (OTA), which is a serious threat to human health. Thus, the construction of novel, simple sensing platforms for OTA monitoring is of utmost need. Manganese-doped lead halide perovskite quantum dots encapsulated with mesoporous SiO 2 (Mn-CsPbBr 3 QDs@SiO 2 ) were prepared here and used as a ratiometric fluorescent probe for OTA. Mn-CsPbBr 3 QDs, synthesized at room temperature, exhibit dual emission with maximum wavelengths of 440 and 570 nm and, when embedded in the SiO 2 layer, produce a stable and robust photoluminescence signal. By adding OTA to the probe, emission at 440 nm increases while emission at 570 nm decreases, so a ratiometric response is obtained. Experimental variables affecting the probe signal were studied and optimized and the mechanism of sensing was discussed. This ratiometric sensor demonstrated excellent selectivity and low detection limit (4.1 ng/ml) as well as a wide linear range from 5.0 to 250 ng/ml for OTA. A simple portable smartphone-based device was also constructed and applied for the fluorescence assay. With different OTA concentrations, the multicolor transition from pink to blue under a UV lamp led to simple visual and smartphone-assisted sensing of OTA by using a color analyzing application. Satisfactory recoveries in black tea, coffee, moldy fig and flour samples confirmed the reliability of the assay. Based on their chemical structure and catalytic features, carbon dots (CDs) demonstrate great advantages for agricultural systems. The improvements in growth, photosynthesis, nutrient assimilation and resistance are provided by CDs treatments under control or adverse conditions. However, there is no data on how CDs can enhance the tolerance against chromium toxicity on gas exchange, photosynthetic machinery and ROS-based membrane functionality. The present study was conducted to evaluate the impacts of the different concentrations of orange peel derived-carbon dots (50-100-200-500 mg L -1 CD) on growth, chlorophyll fluorescence, phenomenological fluxes between photosystems, photosynthetic performance, ROS accumulation and antioxidant system under chromium stress (Cr, 100 μM chromium (VI) oxide) in Lactuca sativa. CDs removed the Cr-reduced changes in growth (RGR), water content (RWC) and proline (Pro) content. Compared to stress, CD exposures caused an alleviation in carbon assimilation rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, carboxylation efficiency, chlorophyll fluorescence (F v /F m ) and potential photochemical efficiency (F v /F o ). Cr toxicity disrupted the energy fluxes (ABS/RC, TR o /RC, ET o /RC and DI o /RC), quantum yields and, efficiency (ΨE o and φR o ), dissipation of energy (DI o /RC) and performance index (PI ABS and PI total ). An amelioration in these parameters was provided by CD addition to Cr-applied plants. Stressed plants had high activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POX) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX), which could not prevent the increase of H 2 O 2 and lipid peroxidation (TBARS content). While all CDs induced SOD and catalase (CAT) in response to stress, POX and enzyme/non-enzymes related to ascorbate-glutathione (AsA-GSH) cycle (APX, monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDHAR) and dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR), the contents of AsA and, GSH) were activated by 50-100-200 mg L -1 CD. CDs were able to protect the AsA regeneration, GSH/GSSG and GSH redox status. The decreases in H 2 O 2 content might be attributed to the increased activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPX). Therefore, all CD applications minimized the Cr stress-based disturbances (TBARS content) by controlling ROS accumulation, antioxidant system and photosynthetic machinery. An important paradigm shift towards the circular economy is to prioritize waste prevention, reuse, recycling, and recovery before disposal is necessary. In this context, a sustainable protocol of converting waste pea peel (wPP) into low-cost carbon nanomaterials for sensing and conversion of p-nitrophenol (p-NP) into value-added paracetamol is being reported. Two fractions of the carbonaceous nanomaterials were obtained after the hydrothermal treatment (HT) of wPP, firstly an aqueous portion containing water-soluble carbon dots (wPP-CDs) and a solid residue, which was converted into carbonized biochar (wPP-BC). Blue-colored fluorescent wPP-CDs displayed excitation-dependent and pH-independent properties with a quantum yield (QY) of 8.82 %, which were exploited for the fluorescence sensing of p-NP with 4.20 μM limit of detection. Pyrolyzed biochar acting as an efficient catalyst effectively reduces p-NP to p-aminophenol (p-AP) in just 16 min with a 0.237 min -1 rate of conversion. Furthermore, the produced p-AP was converted into paracetamol, an analgesic and antipyretic drug, to achieve zero waste theory. Exploring biopolymer-based antibacterial packaging materials is promising to tackle the issues caused by petroleum plastic pollution and microbial contamination. Herein, a novel packaging material with two antibacterial modes, continuous and efficient, is constructed by dispersing positively charged spermidine carbon dots (Spd-CDs) in a carrageenan/polyvinyl alcohol (CP) composite biopolymer. The obtained nanocomposite film (CP/CDs film) not only gradually releases the ultra-small Spd-CDs but also rapidly generates reactive oxygen species to inhibit the reproduction of E. coli and S. aureus. Benefiting from the complementary advantages of carrageenan and polyvinyl alcohol, as well as the addition of Spd-CDs, the CP/CDs films exhibit high transparency, good mechanical performance, water vapor barrier ability, low migration, etc. The CP/CDs film as a packaging material is validated to be effective in preventing microbial contamination of pork samples. Discovered over a decade ago, sulfur quantum dots (SQDs) have rapidly emerged as a sustainable, safe, and inexpensive quantum material. Sustainably synthesizing SQDs using sublimed sulfur powders, typically produced as waste in industrial petrochemical refining processes, has attracted researchers to use these functional quantum materials in various research fields. SQDs quickly found applications in various research fields, such as electronics, environmental sensing, food packaging, and biomedical engineering. Although low production yields, time-consuming and energy-intensive synthetic methods, and low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) have been some problems, researchers have found ways to improve synthetic methods, develop passivating agents, and systematically modify reaction schemes and energy sources to achieve large-scale synthesis of stable SQDs with high PLQY. Nonetheless, SQDs have succeeded tremendously in biomedical and related applications due to their low toxicity, antibacterial and antioxidant properties, biocompatibility, appropriate cellular uptake, and photoluminescent properties. The carbon-based nanostructures have led to the development of theranostic nanoplatforms for simultaneous diagnosis and therapy due to their effective cell membrane-penetration ability, low degree of cytotoxicity, excellent pore volume, substantial chemical stability, and reactive surface. In the last few years, extensive efforts were made to design multifunctional nanoplatform strategies based on carbon nanostructures, involving multimodal imaging, controlled drug release capabilities, sensing in vitro, efficient drug loading capacity, and therapy. Carbon and graphene quantum dots (CQDs and GQDs) were the recent entrants, contingently being assessed for drug delivery and bioimaging. With the advancements, these quantum dots have ignited remarkable research interest and are now widely evaluated for diagnosis, bioimaging, sensing, and drug delivery applications. The last decade has witnessed their remarkable electrical, optical, and biocompatible properties since their inception. It is presumed that both of them have high potential as drug carriers and would serve as the next generation of approaches to address numerous unresolved therapeutic challenges. Carbon dots (CDs) derived from sustainable natural feed-stocks like lignin have gained wide acceptance by virtue of their renewability and promising potential in intelligent sensing applications. The precursor lignin is isolated from agro-biomass waste, coconut husk through sodium hydroxide based extraction process. CDs are synthesised from amine functionalized lignin through solvothermal process and integrated into carrageenan biopolymer matrix (1, 2 and 3 wt%). The composite film with 2 wt% CDs (CARR2CD) showed optimum fluorescent emission intensity, excellent pH dependent fluorescent color change in the food pH range, reasonable tensile strength (46.50 ± 1.32 MPa) and 27 % increase in elongation at break. CDs imparted UV-light blocking properties (70 % UV-light) and enhanced hydrophobicity of the carrageenan matrix. CARR2CD film showed 84 % visible light transparency, 79 % reduction in oxygen transmittance rate (OTR), 81 % reduction in CO 2 gas permeability and excellent antioxidant and antibacterial properties (against E. coli and S. aureus). As a practical application, the developed responsive packaging material is used to track pH change associated with milk spoilage via noticeable color change in fluorescent emission of the composite film. Lomefloxacin (LMF), a third-generation fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent, is often used to treat bacterial and mycoplasma infections. However, due to its prolonged half-life and slow metabolism, it is prone to residues in animal-derived foods, posing a potential food safety risk. Therefore, it is particularly urgent and important to establish a method for detecting lomefloxacin. In this study, direct and indirect competitive fluorescence-linked immunosorbent assay (dc-FLISA and ic-FLISA) based on quantum dots (QDs) was established for the detection of LMF. As for dc-FLISA, the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) and limit of detection (LOD) were 0.84 ng/mL, 0.04 ng/mL, respectively, the detection ranges from 0.08 to 9.11 ng/mL. The IC 50 and LOD of ic-FLISA were 0.43 ng/mL and 0.03 ng/mL, respectively, meanwhile the detection ranges from 0.05 to 3.49 ng/mL. The recoveries of dc-FLISA and ic-FLISA in animal-derived foods (milk, fish, chicken, and honey), ranged from 95.8% to 105.2% and from 96.3% to 103.4%, respectively, with the coefficients of variation less than 8%. These results suggest that the dc-FLISA and ic-FLISA methods, which are based on QD labelling, are highly sensitive and cost-effective, and can be effectively used to detect LMF in animal-derived foods.

Purpose: Radiolabeled graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets has been one of the most extensively studied nanoplatform for in vivo radioisotope delivery. Herein, we describe the functionalization of the surface of GO nanosheets with Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles, cysteine amino acid as an interface ligand, and cadmium telluride quantum dots., Materials and Methods: To enable In vivo PET imaging, the GO@Fe 3 O 4 -cys-CdTe QDs were labeled with 68 Ga to yield [ 68 Ga] Ga-Go@ Fe 3 O 4 -Cys-CdTe QDs. Developing low-cost and efficient methods to enhance the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) intensity of luminophores is highly desirable and challenging. Herein, we developed an efficient ECL system based on palladium-modified graphene oxide as a substrate and tin dioxide quantum dot-modified spike-like gold-silver alloy as an immunoprobe. Specifically, palladium-modified graphene oxide was rationally selected as the sensor substrate for the attachment of zearalenone antigens while facilitating the amplification of the ECL signal through enhanced electron transfer efficiency. A spike-like gold-silver alloy modified with tin dioxide quantum dots was attached to the zearalenone antibody as an immunoprobe, and the sensor exhibited remarkable sensitivity due to the exceptional ECL performance of the quantum dots. To demonstrate the practical feasibility of the principle, zearalenone levels were detected in actual samples of maize and pig urine, and the sensor showed a broad linear range (0.0005-500 ng mL -1 ) and low detection limit (0.16 pg mL -1 ) in the high-sensitivity detection of Zearalenone. Overall, this work first reports the construction of a highly sensitive ECL immunosensor for the detection of zearalenone using a protruding gold-silver alloy modified with tin dioxide as an immunoprobe and a palladium modified graphene oxide as a substrate. Oxidized MXene quantum dots@CuNi bimetal (MQDs@CuNi) were firstly prepared through a simple hydrothermal method. Compared to the controlled samples, MQDs@CuNi 1:1 showed the highest peroxidase-like activity. The catalytic mechanism of MQDs@CuNi 1:1 was investigated using a steady-state fluorescence analysis, which showed that MQDs@CuNi 1:1 efficiently decomposes H 2 O 2 and produces highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (OH). Furthermore, theoretical calculations showed that the remarkable catalytic activity of MQDs@CuNi 1:1 originates from the interaction between CuNi bimetal and MQDs to promote the activation and decomposition of H 2 O 2 , making it easier to combine with the hydrogen at the end of 3,3',5,5'-Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). Accordingly, a sensitive colorimetric sensor is proposed to detect glyphosate (Glyp), displaying a low detection limit of 1.13 µM. The excessive content of lead (Pb(II)) and Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus) seriously harms the quality of aquatic products. In this paper, a highly sensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was constructed using the synergistic effect of Au NPs@Nickel-Cobalt-Metal-organic frameworks (Au@Ni-Co-MOFs) and double potential resolution function of urchin-like Au@luminol and Cadmium sulfide quantum dots (CdS QDs) for synchronous detection of Pb(II) and S.aureus in aquatic products. Au@Ni-Co-MOFs as the base material, its cube structure can improve the surface active area and sensitivity of the sensor, providing more catalytic active sites for the two functional probes. Urchin-like Au@luminol binding aptamer DNA2 specifically recognizes Pb(II), CdS QDs binding aptamer DNA3 specifically recognizes S.aureus, which collaboratively catalyzed hydrogen peroxide reduction to produce two electrochemiluminescence signals. The shared hairpin structure DNA1 binds stably to Au@Ni-Co-MOFs via the Au-S bond, and the two functional probes are complementary paired with the DNA1 respectively to ensure the specificity of the aptamer. According to the ECL intensity changes of different potentials signal sources, the synchronous detection of Pb(II) and S.aureus with different concentrations is realized. The deterioration of fruit could reduce the shelf life, decreased marketability and substantial economic value. Thus, a safe, simple, economical and environmentally friendly preservation technology for fruit is of great significance. Here, the postharvest preservation technology was investigated with zinc-doped carbon quantum dots and chlorogenic acid (Zn-CQDs/CGA) composite. Zn-CQDs/CGA composite were synthesized, which exhibits superior antioxidant and antibacterial activities. The binding mechanism of the Zn-CQDs/CGA composite was investigated, which revealed that the bindings of two components were mainly driven by hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces to create a novel composite. The Zn-CQDs/CGA composite was applied to longan preservation and was found to significantly reduce the incidence of mildew spot, browning of fruit endocarp and pulp, as well as the degree of degradation of quality indexes. Fe-based nanostructures have possessed promising properties that make it suitable for chiral sensing and imaging applications owing to their ultra-small size, non-toxicity, biocompatibility, excellent photostability, tunable fluorescence, and water solubility. This review summarizes the recent research progress in the field of Fe-based nanostructures and places special emphases on their applications in chiral sensing and imaging. The synthetic strategies to prepare the targeted Fe-based structures were also introduced. Unconditional use of antibiotics triggered the process of bacterial resistance and causes major health problems. Nowadays, antibiotics majorly used in animals not only for infection treatment but also as mass promotor. The excess amount of antibiotics residue in animal derived foods which accelerate antibiotic resistance (ABR). So, here, a simple and quick carbon quantum dots(CQDs) based fluorometric "On-Off" probe was developed for detection of moxifloxacin (MOXI) in milk and egg samples. The CQDs emits blue emission and are uniformly distributed with average particle size 5.9 ± 0.22 nm. With MOXI, fluorescence intensity of CQDs at 372 nm decreased due to inner filter effect (IFE) and a new peak appeared at 508 nm correspondence to MOXI. The probe shows linear response with MOXI concentration varies as 0.025 µM - 15.0 µM with lower detection limit (LOD) of 6.34 nM. Dental cement residues exacerbate peri-implant tissue irritation and peri-implantitis. The present study aims to evaluate the cytotoxicity, physiochemical, optical, and rheological properties of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) impregnated glass ionomer cement (GIC). Surface passivated fluorescent CQDs were synthesized using citric acid via thermal decomposition and blended with GIC. Characterization studies and rheological measurements were made to evaluate their performance. 3D-printed dental implant models cemented with GIC and GIC-CQD were compared to analyze excess cement residues. MTT assay was performed with human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) and statistically analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey's test. CQDs with a particle dimension of ∼2 nm were synthesized. The amorphous property of GIC-CQD was confirmed through XRD. The fluorescence properties of GIC-CQD showed three times higher emission intensity than conventional GIC. GIC-CQD attained maturation with a setting time extended by 64 s than GIC. Cement residue of size 2 mm was detected with a UV light excitation at a distance between 5 to 10 cm. Biocompatibility at 0.125 mg ml -1 dilution concentrations of GIC-CQD showed viability greater than 80% to hDPSCs. For the first time, we report that CQDs-impregnated GIC is a unique and cost-effective strategy for in-situ detection of excess cement rapidly using a hand-held device. A novel in-situ rapid detection method enables the dentist to identify residual cement of size less than 2 mm during the implantation. This work presents the synthesis and characterization of an innovative F,S-doped carbon dots/CuONPs hybrid nanostructure obtained by a direct mixture between F,S-doped carbon dots obtained electrochemically and copper nitrate alcoholic solution. The hybrid nanostructures synthesized were characterized by absorption spectroscopy in the Ultraviolet region (UV-vis), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and different electrochemical techniques. The fluoride and sulfur-doped carbon dots/CuONPs nanostructures were used to prepare a non-enzymatic biosensor on a printed carbon electrode, exhibiting excellent electrocatalytic activity for the simultaneous determination of NADH, dopamine, and uric acid in the presence of ascorbic acid with a detection limit of 20, 80, and 400 nmol L -1 , respectively. The non-enzymatic biosensors were also used to determine NADH, dopamine, and uric acid in plasma, and they did not suffer significant interference from each other.

Carbon dots (CDs) are novel carbon-based nanomaterials that have been used as photosensitizer-mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) in recent years due to their good photosensitizing activity. Photosensitizers (PSs) are main components of PDT that can produce large amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS) when stimulated by light source, which have the advantages of low drug resistance and high therapeutic efficiency. CDs can generate ROS efficiently under irradiation and therefore have been extensively studied in disease local phototherapy. In tumor therapy, CDs can be used as PSs or PS carriers to participate in PDT and play an extremely important role. In bacterial infectious diseases, CDs exhibit high bactericidal activity as CDs are effective in disrupting bacterial cell membranes leading to bacterial death upon photoactivation. We focus on recent advances in the therapy of cancer and bacteria with CDs, and also briefly summarize the mechanisms and requirements for PSs in PDT of cancer, bacteria and other diseases. Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR-9) is a protein that helps our immune system identify specific DNA types. Upon detection, CpG oligodeoxynucleotides signal the immune system to generate cytokines, essential proteins that contribute to the body's defence against infectious diseases. Native phosphodiester type B CpG ODNs induce only Interleukin-6 with no effect on interferon-α. We prepared silicon quantum dots containing different surface charges, such as positive, negative, and neutral, using amine, acrylate-modified Plouronic F-127, and Plouronic F-127. Then, class B CpG ODNs are loaded on the surface of the prepared SiQDs. The uptake of ODNs varies based on the surface charge; positively charged SiQDs demonstrate higher adsorption compared to SiQDs with negative and neutral surface charges. The level of cytokine production in peripheral blood mononuclear cells was found to be associated with the surface charge of SiQDs prior to the binding of the CpG ODNs. Significantly higher levels of IL-6 and IFN-α induction were observed compared to neutral and negatively charged SiQDs loaded with CpG ODNs. The glycated hemoglobin (HbA 1c ) level, which is defined as the ratio of HbA 1c to total hemoglobin (tHb, including glycated and unglycated hemoglobin), is considered one of the preferred indicators for diabetes monitoring. Generally, assessment of the HbA 1c level requires separate determination of tHb and HbA 1c concentrations after a complex separation step. This undoubtedly increases the cost of the assay, and the loss or degradation of HbA 1c during the separation process results in a decrease in the accuracy of the assay. Therefore, this study explored a dual-signal acquisition method for the one-step simultaneous evaluation of tHb and HbA 1c . Quantification of tHb: graphene adsorbed carbon quantum dots and methylene blue were utilized as the substrate material and linked to the antibody. tHb was captured on the substrate by the antibody. The unique heme group on tHb catalyzed the production of •OH from H 2 O 2 to degrade methylene blue on the substrate, and a quantitative relationship between the tHb concentration and the methylene blue oxidation current signal was constructed. Quantification of HbA 1c : complex labels with HbA 1c recognition were made of ZIF-8-ferrocene-gold nanoparticles-mercaptophenylboronic acid. The specific recognition of the boronic acid bond with the unique cis -diol structure of HbA 1c establishes a quantitative relationship between the oxidation current of the label-loaded ferrocene and the concentration of HbA 1c . Thus, the HbA 1c level can be assessed with only one signal readout. The sensor exhibited extensive detection ranges (0.200-600 ng/mL for tHb and 0.100-300 ng/mL for HbA 1c ) and low detection limits (4.00 × 10 -3 ng/mL for tHb and 1.03 × 10 -2 ng/mL for HbA 1c ).

Amyloid aggregation is implicated in the pathogenesis of various neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). It is critical to develop high-performance drugs to combat amyloid-related diseases. Most identified nanomaterials exhibit limited biocompatibility and therapeutic efficacy. In this work, we used a solvent-free carbonization process to prepare new photo-responsive carbon nanodots (CNDs). The surface of the CNDs is densely packed with chemical groups. CNDs with large, conjugated domains can interact with proteins through π-π stacking and hydrophobic interactions. Furthermore, CNDs possess the ability to generate singlet oxygen species ( 1 O 2 ) and can be used to oxidize amyloid. The hydrophobic interaction and photo-oxidation can both influence amyloid aggregation and disaggregation. Thioflavin T (ThT) fluorescence analysis and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy indicate that CNDs can block the transition of amyloid from an α-helix structure to a β-sheet structure. CNDs demonstrate efficacy in alleviating cytotoxicity induced by Aβ42 and exhibit promising blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability. CNDs have small size, low biotoxicity, good fluorescence and photocatalytic properties, and provide new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of amyloid-related diseases.

A dual-mode (colorimetric/fluorescence) nanoenzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (NLISA) was developed based on Au-Cu nanocubes generating Prussian blue nanoparticles (PBNPs). It is expected that this method can be used to detect the residues of sulfonamides in the field, and solve the problem of long analysis time and high cost of the traditional method. Sulfadimethoxine (SDM) was selected as the proof-of-concept target analyte. The Au-Cu nanocubes were linked to the aptamer by amide interaction, and the Au-Cu nanocubes, SDM and antibody were immobilized on a 96-well plate using the sandwich method. The assay generates PBNPs by oxidising the Cu shells on the Au-Cu nanocubes in the presence of hydrochloric acid, Fe 3+ and K 3 [Fe (CN) 6 ]. In this process, the copper shell undergoes oxidation to Cu 2+ and subsequently Cu 2 +  further quenches the fluorescence of the carbon point. PBNPs exhibit peroxidase-like activity, oxidising 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to OX-TMB in the presence of H 2 O 2 , which alters the colorimetric signal. The dual-mode signals are directly proportional to the sulfadimethoxine concentration within the range 10 - 3 ~10 - 7 mg/mL. The limit of detection (LOD) of the assay is 0.023 ng/mL and 0.071 ng/mL for the fluorescent signal and the colorimetric signal, respectively. DNA Nanotechnology is being applied to multiple research fields. The functionality of DNA nanostructures is significantly enhanced by decorating them with nanoscale moieties including: proteins, metallic nanoparticles, quantum dots, and chromophores. Decoration is a complex process and developing protocols for reliable attachment routinely requires extensive trial and error. Additionally, the granular nature of scientific communication makes it difficult to discern general principles in DNA nanostructure decoration. This tutorial is a guidebook designed to minimize experimental bottlenecks and avoid dead-ends for those wishing to decorate DNA nanostructures. We supplement the reference material on available technical tools and procedures with a conceptual framework required to make efficient and effective decisions in the lab. Background: Mangiferin (MA), a bioactive C-glucosyl xanthone with a wide range of interesting therapeutic properties, has recently attracted considerable attention. However, its application in biomedicine is limited by poor solubility and bioavailability. Carbon dots (CDs), novel nanomaterials, have immense promise as carriers for improving the biopharmaceutical properties of active components because of their outstanding characteristics., Methods: In this study, a novel water-soluble carbon dot (MC-CDs) was prepared for the first time from an aqueous extract of Moutan Cortex Carbonisata , and characterized by various spectroscopies, zeta potential and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The toxicity effect was investigated using the CCK-8 assay in vitro. In addition, the potential of MC-CDs as carriers for improving the pharmacokinetic parameters was evaluated in vivo., Results: The results indicated that MC-CDs with a uniform spherical particle size of 1-5 nm were successfully prepared, which significantly increased the solubility of MA in water. The MC-CDs exhibited low toxicity in HT-22 cells. Most importantly, the MC-CDs effectively affected the pharmacokinetic parameters of MA in normal rats. UPLC-MS analysis indicated that the area under the maximum blood concentration of MA from mangiferin-MC-CDs (MA-MC-CDs) was 1.6-fold higher than that from the MA suspension liquid (MA control) after oral administration at a dose of 20 mg/kg., Conclusion: Moutan Cortex -derived novel CDs exhibited superior performance in improving the solubility and bioavailability of MA. Hybrid nanozyme graphene quantum dots (GQDs) deposited TiO 2 nanotubes (NTs) on titanium foil (Ti/TiO 2 NTs-GQDs) were manufactured by bestowing the hybrid with the advantageous porous morphology, surface valence states, high surface area, and copious active sites. The peroxidase-like activity was investigated through the catalytic oxidation of chromogenic substrate 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of H 2 O 2 , which can be visualized by the eyes. TiO 2 NTs and GQDs comprising oxygen-containing functional groups can oxidize TMB in the presence of H 2 O 2 by mimicking peroxidase enzymes. The peroxidase-mimicking activity of hybrid nanozyme was significantly escalated by introducing light illumination due to the photosensitive features of the hybrid material. The peroxidase-like activity of Ti/TiO 2 NTs-GQDs enabled H 2 O 2 determination over the linear range of 7 to 250 μM, with a LOD of 2.1 µM. The satisfying peroxidase activity is possibly due to the unimpeded access of H 2 O 2 to the catalyst's active sites. The porous morphology provides the easy channeling of reactants and products. The periodic structure of the material also gave rise to acceptable reproducibility. Sensitive and rapid detection of pesticide residues in food is essential for human safety. A ratiometric imprinted fluorescence sensor N-CDs@Eu-MOF@MIP (BR@MIP) was constructed to sensitively detect malathion (Mal). Europium-based metal organic frameworks (Eu-MOF) were used as supporters to improve the sensitivity of the BR@MIP. N-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) were used as fluorescent source to produce fluorescent signal. A linear relationship between the concentration of Mal and the fluorescence response of the sensor was found in the Mal concentration range of 1-10 μM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.05 μM. Furthermore, the sensor was successfully applied for the detection of Mal in lettuce, tap water, and soil samples, with recoveries in the range of 93.0 % - 99.3 %. Additionally, smartphone-based sensors were used to detect Mal in simulated real samples. Limited utilization of photogenerated charge carriers in titanium dioxide under visible light have hinder its application development. To address this challenge, a novel N-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) and oxygen vacancies (OVs) synergistically decorated on TiO 2 (P25) was synthesized through a facile one-step hydrothermal method. Under visible light irradiation, the first order reaction rate constants of formaldehyde (HCHO) photocatalytic oxidation by OVs-TiO 2 and N-CQDs/OVs-TiO 2 was significantly higher than that of pristine P25, with 10.1 and 16.7 folds increase, respectively. Characterization results confirmed the generation of OVs on the surface of N-CQDs/TiO 2 composite. The optical and electrochemical experiments suggested the electron capture center effect of OVs and the properties of N-CQDs in unique up-converted photoluminescence, efficient charge separation, as well as significant adsorption in visible light region. In addition, the work function also clarified that photoelectrons could transfer from N-CQDs to OVs-TiO 2 . Furthermore, different relative humidity and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments demonstrated that the hydroxyl radical (•OH) was the dominant reactive radical in HCHO photodegradation. Quantum dots (QDs) are a novel type of nanomaterial that has unique optical and physical characteristics. As such, QDs are highly desired because of their potential to be used in both biomedical and industrial applications. However, the mass adoption of QDs usage has raised concerns among the scientific community regarding QDs' toxicity. Although many papers have reported the negative impact of QDs on a cellular level, the exact mechanism of the QDs' toxicity is still unclear. In this investigation, we study the adverse effects of QDs by focusing on one of the most important cellular processes: actin polymerization and depolymerization. Our results showed that QDs act in a biphasic manner where lower concentrations of QDs stimulate the polymerization of actin, while high concentrations of QDs inhibit actin polymerization. Furthermore, we found that QDs can bind to filamentous actin (F-actin) and cause bundling of the filament while also promoting actin depolymerization. Through this study, we found a novel mechanism in which QDs negatively influence cellular processes and exert toxicity.

Based on the use of CQDs as fluorescent probe and covalent coupling method to detect biological molecules with amino groups, to deeply analysis and detect the metabolism of Microcystis aeruginosa. The metabolic changes of carboxyl biomolecules in Microcystis aeruginosa were analyzed by covalent coupling method, including GSH, phycocyanin and SOD enzyme. The changes of GSH content and its correlation between phycocyanin, SOD were analyzed. The content of phycocyanin and SOD reached the maximum on the 65th day, and GSH was more sensitive to the growth and metabolism of microalgae. GSH plays an important role in reducing the external oxidative damage of microalgae cells. The synthesis of glutathione (GSH), GSH/GSSG mutual transformation, the production of phytochelating peptide (PC), the ASA-GSH cycle, and other physiological processes are interconnected. Sunset Yellow (SY) is a widely used food coloring in the food industry. However, exceeding the allowable limit of this dye poses a significant threat to human health. To address this issue, we developed Lycium ruthenicum -derived nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) with a stable blue fluorescence through hydrothermal treatment for SY determination. The quantum yield (QY) of these N-CDs was found to be up to 10.63%. Physical characterization of N-CDs was performed using various spectroscopic techniques to confirm their excellent photostability and non-toxic properties. Furthermore, the presence of SY had a substantial quenching effect on the fluorescence intensity ( F 0 / F ) of the N-CDs. Leveraging this observation, we developed a fluorescent sensor for the determination of SY in the concentration range of 0.05 to 35.0 μM, with a limit of detection (LOD, 3 σ / K ) of 17 nM. The excellent fluorescent sensor also showed satisfactory results in the practical drink samples. Moreover, the stability and cytotoxicity of N-CDs as a fluorescent probe were studied. Finally, the N-CDs were applied to cell imaging using A549 cells.

The preparation of cobalt-based nanozymes with high oxidase-like activity still needs more efforts. In this paper, we report the synthesis of a CoO/Co-tryptophan-functional graphene quantum dot hybrid (CoO/Co-Try-GQD). Firstly, cobalt ions coordinate with the indole nitrogen on Try-GQD to form a complex, followed by thermal reduction and oxidation. The resulting hybrid presents a three-dimensional network structure, and CoO/Co nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed on the graphene sheet with an average size of 10 ± 0.24 nm. This unique structure improved the oxidase-like activity of the hybrid, enabling it to catalyze the oxidation of colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to rapidly produce deep blue ox-TMB with a strong absorbance at 652 nm ( A 652 ). A colorimetric method was developed for the highly sensitive determination of L-cysteine (L-cys) based on the inhibition of the hybrid's oxidase-like activity and low A 652 caused by the binding of L-cys with Co atoms on CoO/Co via the Co-S bond. The A 652 linearly decreased with increasing L-cys concentration in the range of 0.05-2 μM, and the detection limit was 0.032 μM. Further, the established method has been successfully applied to the determination of L-cys in milk.

Cancer, responsible for approximately 10 million lives annually, urgently requires innovative treatments, as well as solutions to mitigate the limitations of traditional chemotherapy, such as long-term adverse side effects and multidrug resistance. This review focuses on Carbon Dots (CDs), an emergent class of nanoparticles (NPs) with remarkable physicochemical and biological properties, and their burgeoning applications in bioimaging and as nanocarriers in drug delivery systems for cancer treatment. The review initiates with an overview of NPs as nanocarriers, followed by an in-depth look into the biological barriers that could affect their distribution, from barriers to administration, to intracellular trafficking. It further explores CDs' synthesis, including both bottom-up and top-down approaches, and their notable biocompatibility, supported by a selection of in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo studies. Special attention is given to CDs' role in bioimaging, highlighting their optical properties. The discussion extends to their emerging significance as drug carriers, particularly in the delivery of doxorubicin and other anticancer agents, underscoring recent advancements and challenges in this field. Finally, we showcase examples of other promising bioapplications of CDs, emergent owing to the NPs flexible design. As research on CDs evolves, we envisage key challenges, as well as the potential of CD-based systems in bioimaging and cancer therapy., (© 2024 The Authors. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) is a promising metal-free photocatalyst; however, its high carrier recombination rate and insufficient redox capacity limit its degradation effect on antibiotics. In order to overcome these shortcomings, the photocatalytic activity is improved by regulating the spin polarization state, constructing the internal electric field, and applying the external piezoelectric field. In this paper, the chlorine-doped and nitrogen-deficient porous carbon nitride composite carbon quantum dots (N v -Cl/UPCN@CQD) has been synthesized successfully. The doping position of chlorine and spin polarization properties are verified by DFT calculation. The key intermediates *O 2 - and *OOH for the synthesis of reactive oxygen species were detected by in-situ infrared testing, which promotes the production of •O 2 - and H 2 O 2 . The degradation rate constant of N v -Cl/UPCN@CQD for removal of tetracycline is 8.45 times higher than that of g-C 3 N 4 . The active oxygen production and degradation efficiency of piezoelectric photocatalysis under the synergistic effect of intense stirring and vis-light irradiation are much higher than those of photocatalysis and piezoelectric catalysis, and the conversion of H 2 O 2 to •OH is promoted by piezoelectric field. In this study, CuLaSe 2 and ZnCuLaSe 2 quantum dots (QDs) with a mean size of ~4 nm were synthesized and characterized, and their temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) properties were studied in the temperature range from 90 to 300 K for the first time. The results show that the obtained QDs were spherical and revealed excitonic band gaps. The PL intensity for both types of materials decreased when increasing the temperature to 300 K, which was attributed to the nonradiative relaxation and thermal escape mechanisms. As the temperature was increased, the PL linewidths broadened, and PL peak energies were red shifted for both types of QDs due to the exciton-phonon coupling and lattice deformation potential mechanisms. In addition, we found that as the temperature was decreased, the PL spectrum of ZnCuLaSe 2 QDs contained two extra components, which could be attributed to the shallow defect sites (low energy peak) and the crystal phase transition process (high energy peak). The traditional textile degumming process produces abundant wastewater, which contains a lot of monosaccharides and oligosaccharides. It is of great economic and environmental significance to utilize these carbohydrates in high value. In this study, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to analyze the carbohydrate components in kenaf degumming wastewater, and then the production of C-dots using the wastewater was explored. The results showed that the types and content in the degumming wastewater were monosaccharides (glucose, xylose and arabinose) and oligosaccharides (dextran, xylan and araban). The carbohydrate (mainly glucan and xylan) content in wastewater accounted for 91.16 % of the total carbohydrates weight loss in kenaf degumming process. By using hydrolysis and hydrothermal reaction on kenaf degumming wastewater, blue-green carbon dots (C-dots) with good performance were prepared and successfully applied to anti-counterfeiting printing. In particular, the as-prepared C-dots prepared from kenaf degumming wastewater with urea added (WUC-dots) showed an excitation-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectrum and quantum yield (QY) of 2.4 % in aqueous solution. Lignin is a popular material for energy transition and high-value utilization due to its low cost, non-toxicity, renewability, and widespread availability. However, its complex structure has hindered its application. Waterborne polyurethane (WPU) uses water as a dispersion medium, which is safer for humans and the environment but also leads to disadvantages such as poor mechanical properties and water resistance. In this study, we prepared multicolor photoluminescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) in a wide range of wavelengths from lignin. We successfully prepared panchromatic CQDs by additive mixing. The redshift of the emission wavelength is attributed to the synergistic effect of the sp 2 conjugated structure and the surface functional groups. The full-color solid-state luminescence of the CQDs was successfully achieved, and most importantly, the application of full-color CQDs in light-emitting diodes was realized. Moreover, the embedding of the multicolor CQDs in WPU not only makes WPU luminescent but also improves the water resistance and mechanical properties of WPUs. The hydrogen-bonding interactions between the functional groups on the surface of the CQDs and the urethane were responsible for the high performance of the composite. We investigated the UV and strong blue light shielding abilities of WPU/yellow CQDs films, which resulted from the unique absorption peaks of yellow CQDs in the UV region and the strong blue light region. Introducing carbon quantum dots (CQDs) into photocatalysts is believed to boost the charge transfer rate and reduce charge complexation. Doping heteroatoms such as N, S, or P enable CQDs to have an uplifting electron transfer capability. However, the application of oxygen-doped CQDs to improve the performance of photocatalysts has rarely been reported. Herein, a type of carbon-oxygen quantum dots (COQDs) was in situ embedded into MIL-53(Fe) to aid peroxydisulfate (PDS)-activated degradation of oxytetracycline (OTC) under visible light irradiation. The successful embedding of COQDs was confirmed by XRD, FT-IR, XPS, SEM, and TEM techniques. Photoelectrochemical testing confirmed its better performance. The prepared COQDs1/MIL-53(Fe) showed 88.2% decomposition efficiency of OTC in 60 min, which was 1.45 times higher than that of pure MIL-53(Fe). In addition, the performance of the material was tested at different pH, OTC concentrations, catalyst dosing, and PDS dosing. It was also subjected to cyclic testing to check stability. Moreover, free radical trapping experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance were conducted to explore the possible OTC deterioration mechanism. Carbon nanomaterials (CNMs), including carbon quantum dots (CQDs), have found widespread use in biomedical research due to their low toxicity, chemical tunability, and tailored applications. Yet, there exists a gap in our understanding of the molecular interactions between biomacromolecules and these novel carbon-centered platforms. Using gelatin-derived CQDs as a model CNM, we have examined the impact of this exemplar nanomaterial on apo-myoglobin (apo-Mb), an oxygen-storage protein. Intrinsic fluorescence measurements revealed that the CQDs induced conformational changes in the tertiary structure of native, partially unfolded, and unfolded states of apo-Mb. Titration with CQDs also resulted in significant changes in the secondary structural elements in both native (holo) and apo-Mb, as evidenced by the circular dichroism (CD) analyses. These changes suggested a transition from isolated helices to coiled-coils during the loss of the helical structure of the apo-protein. Infra-red spectroscopic data further underscored the interactions between the CQDs and the amide backbone of apo-myoglobin. Importantly, the CQDs-driven structural perturbations resulted in compromised heme binding to apo-myoglobin and, therefore, potentially can attenuate oxygen storage and diffusion. However, a cytotoxicity assay demonstrated the continued viability of neuroblastoma cells exposed to these carbon nanomaterials. Monitoring endogenous glutathione (GSH) levels in living cells is essential for cancer diagnose and treatment. In this work, GSH responsive fluorescent nanoprobe with turn-on property was constructed using Zn-modified porphyrinic metal-organic frameworks (PCN-224-Zn). The introduced Zn 2+ could quench the fluorescence of PCN-224 by the metallization of organic ligand (TCPP) and serves as sensing site for GSH. When exposed to GSH, the strong binding affinity of GSH generates the formation of Zn-GSH complex, eliminating the fluorescence quenching effect of Zn 2+ . Based on the constructed PCN-224-Zn nanoprobe, selective determination of GSH was achieved in the range of 0.01-6 μM with a detection limit of 1.5 nM. Furthermore, the constructed nanoprobe can realize the fluorescence imaging of endogenous GSH in MCF-7 and HeLa cells. Meanwhile, PCN-224-Zn could also monitor GSH in cell lysate with recovery rates from 93.8 % to 102.3 %. Quantitative determination of pesticides in fruits and vegetables is essential for human healths. Herein, a new dual-emission carbon dots with high fluorescence stability at a pH range of 4-10 and a temperature range of 0-60 °C was synthesized. And a novel ratiometric fluorescence probe was proposed to detect thiabendazole (TBZ) residue with a wide linear range (0-1000 μM) and low detection limit (0.15 μM). The emission at 512 nm exhibited a special "turn-off" fluorescence sensing of TBZ due to internal filter effect, while that at 361 nm barely changed and worked as reference. Furthermore, the ratiometric fluorescence strategy was successfully applied for determining TBZ in fruits with good recoveries (96.73%-111.17 %, 93.29%-120.78 % and 96.28%-100.57 %, respectively).
